New Single “Junkie” available everywhere (including Spotify, Apple Music, Google Play, Soundcloud, and Tidal)

Austin, TX-based jam band Primal Giants are set to release their debut full-length album ‘Untethered’ on March 6. Razor sharp guitar riffs and dynamic instrumentals lay the groundwork for the quintet’s propulsive psychedelic and funk-laden sound. Formed in 2018, Primal Giants features some of Texas music’s most sought-after session players and rising musicians including JR Hendry (lead vocals, guitar); Steve Littleton (piano, keys); Chris Doege (drums); Takahiro Shimada (lead guitar) and Josh Motlong (bass). Drawing inspiration from the wild ride of ife, Primal Giants crafts each song with hard-spun, gritty Southern rock influences, incisive lyrics and Hendry’s soulful, emotionally-charged vocal delivery.

The Production

Recorded at Austin’s Orb Recording Studios, ‘Untethered’ was produced by Matt Meli and features twelve tracks all written by Hendry. “’Untethered’ was all about letting go for me,” explains Hendry. “It’s a journey through the emotional human experience with the intention of releasing the chords and binds that weigh us down. I wanted to make work with someone who wasn’t going to attempt to confine this music in some designated bin. It’s just art. It’s just a moment set to music. [Matt] Meli saw that and really helped bring this record to life. He’s forever a special brother who’s place on the path of Primal Giants can’t ever be understated. “

“Stand Up” kicks off the album with a brazenly adventurous yet polite introduction to the band’s catalog followed by “Gone,” which succinctly captures a moment of reflection coupled with the band’s collective boundless energy.

The album’s first single “Junkie” is a straight-forward Americana jam inspired by the multi-dimensional facets of intimacy. Listen on any streaming platform (including Spotify, Apple Music, Google Play, Soundcloud, and Tidal) and share.

Slowing things down, “You’ll Never See” is a gorgeous piano-laden ballad about gracefully accepting and flowing through the ups and downs of life. “Runs Through My Blood” gives a lilting, rootsy nod to the ones that came before us and brought us to where we are now.

Other highlights on the album include the hauntingly frenetic “Needles” and the blues-hued, defiant “More Lies” which masterfully showcases Hendry’s impressive vocal dexterity.

Rounding out the album is “Solid Ground” an uplifting and optimistic thoughtful examination of the human experience drenched in fiddle, organ, pedal steel and atmospheric arrangements.

“You only get to make the first record once,” says Hendry. “Making music, writing songs; it’s no different than any other kind of magic. It’s a focused meditative release of the shield that disconnects us from truth and a chord connection to something real. We just focus on that and let truth speak.”

Primal Giants will tour nationally throughout 2020. For tour updates and other news, stay connected here on the site.
